Biographies:
ELISABETE MARTINS – Viola She began her studies at the Conservatório Regional do Algarve, where she studied piano and violin under the guidance of Prof. Rui Gonçalves. She continued her studies in Italy with Antonio Arciprette and Giovanni Borrelli. Later, in Portugal, she studied with Katharina Kruger and José Gomes. Elisabete pursued a bachelor’s degree in Music, Viola, at the University of Évora, where she studied with Jean Aroutiounian. She also studied with Sam Barsegian. Currently, she is pursuing a Master’s in Music Education under the guidance of Prof. David Lloyd at ESART. Elisabete attended masterclasses with Roberto Valdés, Pedro Meireles, and Tiago Neto. She participated in orchestra internships at the Conservatório de Coimbra, collaborating with orchestras such as the Orquestra Ensemble and the Orquestra Clássica do Sul, working with conductors Cesário Costa, Ernst Schelle, Rui Pinheiro, and Maxime Tortelier. She collaborated with the Coro Génesis, the Orquestra do Alentejo, the Algarve Camerata, and the Orquestra Sinfónica do Algarve. In addition to her classical pursuits, she became interested in jazz and studied under Zé Eduardo. In 2014, she completed a degree in Jazz Music at the ESML. Elisabete collaborates with various jazz musicians and has performed at various venues and festivals. She currently teaches at the Conservatório de Olhão and is part of the Quinteto Sull’a Corda. She is also a member of the Trio Setula and the Quarteto Rouge Manouche, exploring Gypsy Jazz repertoire.
LUÍS CONCEIÇÃO – Pianist Born on June 3, 1974, Luís Conceição began his musical studies at the age of 5 at the Conservatório Regional do Algarve, where he completed the General Piano Course. He then enrolled in the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, where he obtained a degree in Music Sciences. Subsequently, he completed a degree in Piano at the University of Évora and a Master’s degree in Music Education at ISEIT. Luís worked as a piano accompanist and as a piano and History of Culture and Arts teacher at various national conservatories, including Canto Firme de Tomar, Conservatório Regional do Algarve Maria Campina, and Instituto Superior Afonso III in Loulé. He currently serves as a piano and History of Culture and Arts teacher at the Academia de Música de Tavira. As a pianist and composer, Luís has performed in numerous national and international venues, both as a solo artist and as part of chamber ensembles, choirs, and orchestras. He has composed over 400 works, some of which are recorded on six self-published CDs. His style is essentially a fusion of various genres, including Ethnic Music, Jazz, and Classical Music. Luís currently leads various music projects, emphasizing the interdisciplinarity of the Arts, particularly the symbiotic relationship between Music, Poetry, and Cinema. These projects include “Histórias ao Piano,” “Entre nós e as Palavras,” “Metrópolis,” and “Woman of Paris.” Luís is also the author of educational piano works for children and is actively involved in piano teaching.
